Capturing the Future: My Life-Size Portrait of Geovany Quenda
On April 25, 2025, I had the honor of presenting my largest oil painting to date—a 2-meter by 1-meter portrait of Sporting Clube de Portugal’s rising star, Geovany Quenda. This piece, executed in an expressive alla prima style with bold brushstrokes, was a tribute to a young talent who, at just 18, has already made significant strides in professional football.
The Inspiration Behind the Portrait
Geovany Quenda’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. Born on April 30, 2007, in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, he moved to Portugal and began his football career with Damaiense before joining Benfica’s youth ranks. In 2019, he transitioned to Sporting CP, where he rapidly ascended through the youth system. By 2024, he had become an integral part of Sporting’s first team, making 31 appearances and scoring two goals in the Primeira Liga. His performances have not only earned him a spot in Portugal’s U21 national team but also attracted attention from top European clubs .

Creating the Artwork
The decision to portray Quenda was driven by his dynamic presence on the field and his potential to become one of the world’s best players. The painting process spanned nearly a month, during which I aimed to encapsulate his energy and determination. Utilizing the alla prima technique allowed me to capture the immediacy and vitality that Quenda brings to the game.

A Continuing Relationship with Sporting CP
This isn’t my first collaboration with Sporting CP. Previously, I created a portrait of coach Rúben Amorim, which was featured on the cover of Record newspaper. These projects reflect my deep appreciation for the club and its contributions to Portuguese football.
Looking Ahead
As Quenda’s career progresses—recent reports indicate a future move to Chelsea FC in 2027 —I hope this portrait serves as a lasting tribute to his early achievements and the promise he holds for the future.
